The Barbary wars were fought between pirates from North Africa and the United States. Close to 700 Americans were held captive and made a North African slave to criticise the slavery in the United States. The Barbary crisis led to the creation of US Navy in 1794 and since then they were able to protect the territories better and secure peace treaties.
