FACT FOOD #467

Sow and Piglets are the limestone pillars found in Port Campbell National Park in the state of Victoria, Australia. The name ‘Sow’ refers to the Mutton Bird Island which is seen from Loch Ard Gorge and Piglets refer to the surrounding rock formations. These rock formations are as a result of ongoing erosion over a course of thousands of years resulting in the formation of rock stacks. The name was changed to Twelve Apostles in the 1920s to represent the Biblical Twelve Apostles. Currently, there are only eight rocks.
