Joan Crawford, one of Hollywood’s popular yesteryear actresses made her debut appearance in the 1920’s as Lucille Le Sueur (birth name) in two of her initial films. The success of these movies prompted her name to be changed and a write-in contest was held by the Movie Weekly magazine for the same. Joan Arden was the popular choice, however this name was already taken by another small-time artist. The runner-up name ‘Joan Crawford’ submitted by Mrs. Marie M. Tisdale (won $500 for the same) became her new screen name and her identity for life. The billings of the two movies Old Clothes (1925) and The Only Thing (1925) were recalled and her name was changed to ‘Joan Crawford’.
