Bruges, part of West Flanders province in Belgium is referred to as The Venice of the North. The name comes from the Flemish “Brugge,” which is based on the Scandanavian word “Brygga” meaning port or landing. Bruges was part of the ancient trade route which was used to transport ‘Amber’ known as the Amber Road traversing through the coastal lines of North Sea, Baltic until the Mediterranean Sea.
