The ancient symbol ‘Swastika’ represents prosperity and goodness in Sanskrit. The symbol has been found on artifacts, such as coins and pottery, from the ancient city of Troy. It has been also found in many other cultures, such as Chinese, Japanese, Indian, American and in Europe. Throught history it has been associated with life, sun, power, strength and good luck. During World War I, it was used on shoulder patches of members of the American 45th Division and the Finnish Air Force. In 1881, when Carl Jacobsen came up with a competitive beer to rival his father’s, he used the Swastika symbol for this beer produced in his brewery. He stopped using this symbol for good in the 1940’s. On the Carlsberg grounds in Copenhagen, this symbol still exists in the iconic Elephant Gates built in 1902.
