The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, India’s iconic luxury hotel was a brainchild of Jamestji Tata, the founder of the Tata empire and father of the Indian industry. This sea-facing hotel was built 21 years before the Gateway of India. The hotel was opened in 1903 and was designed by the architects Sitaram Khanderao Vaidya and D.N. Mirza with the project execution headed by W.A. Chambers. As a part of expansion, a new tower called ‘The Taj Mahal Tower’ was added in 1973 next to the main premises. The Taj Mahal Palace was also one of the properties that suffered in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack more commonly known as 26/11. Since then it has been fully renovated and remains as majestic as it ever did.
