FACT FOOD #426

Technetium happens to be the first element to be artificially produced. The name has its origins from the Greek τεχνητός (technitós) which means artificial. This element eventually filled the gap that was left in the Mendeleev’s periodic table between the elements Molybdenum (42) and ruthenium (44). The discovery was made/confirmed in 1936 through an experiment conducted at the University of Palermo in Sicily by Carlo Perrier and Emilio Segrè.
