The name ‘Iguazu’ as in Iguazu falls comes from the local Guaraní meaning ‘big water’. Located on the borders of Argentina and Brazil, its modern discovery is attributed to the Spanish explorer Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541. At the downstream of the falls, where the rivers Parana and Iguazu meet, it has become a landmark point for the three countries that border – Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.
