The Bambi Award happens to be the oldest media awards in Germany which dates back to 1948. Instituted by Hurbert Burda Media, it rewards annually in recognition of excellence in international television and media who inspired the German public, both locally and internationally. The name ‘Bambi’ is attributed to Marika Rökk (one of the first winners in 1948) when her daughter said “Oh, you brought a Bambi for me.” From 1948 until 1958, a fawn made out of white porcelain was awarded which was later changed to a golden-bronze deer design. Bambi is the name of a famous book by Felix Salten and was made into a Disney movie of the same name in 1942. More about this – http://bit.ly/1mXZiD8
