Casablanca translates to White House in Spanish got its international name in the 18th century. Casablanca is Morocco’s largest city and its original name was ‘Anfa’ in Berber language. When Portuguese occupied parts of Morocco in the 15th century, the city was named ‘Casa Branca’ (Casa =House and Branca=white). Subsequently, the Spanish altered branca to blanca and under the French protectorate, the name ‘Casablanca’ was retained. In Arabic, the city is called ‘A-ddar Al Baidaa’ (House of the White princess).
