Pantograph is the diamond-shaped, electric apparatus that is mounted on top of a electric tram, train or a bus. The Pantograph was invented by Walter Reichel in 1879 while working with Siemens & Halske in Germany. Since then many variations of pantographs have been invented by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in 1895 and by John Q. Brown in the early 1900’s. The name ‘pantograph’ comes from the fact that it is similar to the mechanical pantographs used in copying handwriting and drawings.
