Jean Moreau de Séchelles was a 18th century French official and politician under the reign of Louis XV. The Seychelles islands, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean ceded to the French East India Company in 1756, were named in his honor. After years of controlling by British and French, Seychelles became independent in 1976 and is part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
