Chyawanprash is a ayurvedic paste sold and consumed in India as a dietary supplement. Consisting of more than 30 ingredients, this ayurvedic supplement has been mentioned in the Indian texts like Mahabharat and Puranas. According to the story, the formulation was first prepared by the Royal Physicians (Ashwini brothers) during the Vedic times for Chyawan Rishi (saint/holy man) and hence the name Chyawanprash. The first documented recipe for Chyawanprash is available in the ancient Ayurvedic book ‘Charaka Samhita’. The market size for this product in India is close to $100 million USD.
