FACT FOOD #388

Juche (read chuch’e) is a North Korean idealogy which means ‘self-reliance’. This idealogy was introduced by the country’s first leader Kim II-sung. A tower named after Juche was completed in 1982. This tower is made entirely in granite and is 170 m in height and consists of 25,550 blocks signifying each day of his 70 years of existence till 1982 (365 x 70 without leap days into consideration). Juche Tower happens to be the tallest structure entirely made of granite.
