Gold Dust washing powder was the first commercial all purpose laundry powder which was introduced in the market in 1889 by the Nathaniel Kellogg Fairbank Soap Company. The formula which employed hydrogenated vegetable oils in processing was a breakthrough at that time and was possible due to the efforts of the industrial chemist James F. Boyce. The product’s mascots “Goldie” and “Dustie” knowna s the Gold Dust twins became popular and were regularly featured in print, written and radio ads.
