Bholu, the guard elephant was unveiled on 16th April 2002 to mark the 150th anniversary of railway in India. Designed by National Institute of Design, the mascot is a cartoon of an elephant holding a signal lamp with green light and it was created . Since 2003, the Indian Government decided to use Bholu as the official mascot of the Indian Railways.
