Henry Hudson’s first voyage was intended to find a route to China in early 17th century through North Pole. Working for the Dutch East India company, his voyage resulted in the establishment of Spitzbergen whale fisheries and instead of China, he sailed in a direction opposite to it and reached New York and its surroundings. He is known for his exploration of the 507 km river which is known today as Hudson River, and his exploration paved the way for the Dutch to make an entry into the America interior.
