The George Washington Bridge is a very popular suspension bridge that connects New York to New Jersey spanning a length of 1450m over Hudson River. The construction project began in 1927 with Othmar Ammann and Cass Gilbert being the chief engineer and architect respectively. The name was chosen through a ballot voting submitted by New York and New Jersey residents in 1931 and the very next day the bridge was opened to traffic. The bridge is a landmark monument and has been featured in a number of books, movies and poems.
