Aqua Fortis, more popularly known as concentrated nitric acid is the old name derived from Latin which means “strong water”. The name ‘strong’ is due to its power to dissolve metals like copper, silver that are unaffected by other agents. The process of preparing Aqua fortis was first described by Pseudo-Geber, an anonymous European alchemist who was born in 13th century and wrote books using the pen name ‘Geber’.
