Equinox is an astronomical event that takes place twice in a year. The term gets its name from Latin for aequus “equal” and nox “night” which implies equality of night (and day) in both Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Around this time, both hemispheres receive same amount of sun rays. There are two equinoxes – spring and autumn and they occur in March (spring for Northern Hemisphere) and September (spring for Southern Hemisphere).
