Deodar, a species of cedar native in western Himalayas, northern Pakistan, North India, Nepal and parts of China. The name deodar happens to be the botanical name as well as the English name – which comes from the Sanskrit term ‘devadaru’ – which means ‘wood of the gods’. The deodar tree has been mentioned in some of the ancient Indian epics such as Ramayana and is also the national tree of Pakistan.
