Vinalia, the old Roman festivals of wine harvest and sampling were held in the honour of Jupiter and Venus. There are two occasions during a year when Vinalia was celebrated – one held on April 23, Vinalia Urbana celebrated as a wine festival, to bless and last year’s wine and ask for good weather until the next harvest. The other festival Vinalia Rustica was held on August 19, it was celebrated before the grape harvest and grape-pressing.
