The word talent has its origin from Latin ‘talentum’ which came from Ancient Greek ‘talanton’ which means scale, balance and sum. It was one of the units used to measure mass and also to define value equivalent to the masses of precious metal. This word also appeared in the New Testament in Jesus’s parable of the talents and this happens to be the origin of the modern day definition which means ‘gift or skill’ in English and most other languages.
