Francis Scott Key was a witness to the British bombardment of Fort McHenry (Baltimore, Maryland) on the night of September in 1814. Inspite of this, he was very thrilled to see the American flag flying over the fort next day. Inspired by this event, he wrote a poem titled ‘Defense of Fort McHenry’ which is more popularly known as ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ and since 1931, has been the US National Anthem.
