Who invented potato chips? To be honest, there is not one person who can be bestowed upon this honour. However, there are various account that points to the direction of George Crum, who came up with potato chips after one of his customer complained his french fries were too thick, so George Crum sliced the potatoes thinner, fried them to get a crispy taste and seasoned with salt heavily.
The customer was visibly happy and this snack became to be known as ‘Saratoga chips’ (restaurant was in Saratoga Springs, New York) or just ‘potato crunches’. This was 1853 and after this, in 1860 Crum opened his own restaurant that featured potato chips in a basket on every table.
