FACT FOOD #256

Bangalore International Airport’s (BIAL) logo has three flowering trees and there is a logic behind choosing these three – Jacaranda mimosifolia, Gulmohar (Delonix regia) and the Copper Pod (Peltophorum pterocarpum). These trees were introduced by a German botanist, Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel when he was in charge of the famous Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens in the early part of the 20th century. Each of these trees bloom at different times of the year and thus ensure, round the year, Bangalore trees are flowering.
