James Dean, a film icon was killed on 30 September 1955 at 5.45 pm in a road accident. His new Porsche 550 Spyder had a head-on collision with a 1950 Ford Custom coupe. Dean’s friend and mechanic, Rolf Wütherich, who was with James Dean survived the accident and so too Donald Turnupseed, the driver of the other car. Incidentally, James Dean had shot a road safety commercial a month prior to this incident which cautioned young drivers against the thrills of speeding. He was 24 years of age at the time of his death. Watch the video here
