| Emil Jellinek’s daughter ‘Mercedes’ |
Emil Jellinek was a Austro-Hungarian diplomat and a very wealthy businessman living in Nice, France. His daughter Adriana Manuela Ramona Jellinek was more popularly known as ‘Mercedes’. Emil had a habit of naming all his possessions after his daughter’s pet name. Under an agreement with the designer Wilhem Maybach and Gottlieb Daimler, a car was produced for Emil to take part in the races. It was the first Mercedes. Later in 1926, when Benz and Daimler merged to form Daimler-Benz, the name of the cars came to be known as Mercedes-Benz, owing to the popularity of the name Mercedes.
