Everyone knows what is a parachute or what it is used for. The first usage of this device was in the 18th century, to be precise in 1784, and it was coined by the French aeronaut François Blanchard which means “that which protects against a fall”. The word is a hybrid of two French words – para (defense against) and chute (a fall).
