In the 1860’s, a Gujarati businessman Kanji Morarji set up a small business of selling spices in Mumbai sourced from Kerala. Along with his cousin Vallabhadas Vasanji, the business became export oriented as they exported pepper and ginger to Europe. The business in the 1980’s came to be known as Marico Industries, one of the popular FMCG with brands like Parachute and Saffola to name a few.
