FACT FOOD #219

David T. Abercrombie was a topographer by profession and had a liking for outdoors. At the age of 25, he started a sporting and fishing goods outlet in New York. One of his first customers happened to be Ezra Fitch, who soon became Abercrombie’s partner and thus the fashion brand ‘Abercrombie & Fitch’. After initial success, the firm went into bankruptcy in 1976. In 1978, the name and brand was revived courtesy of Oshman’s Sporting Goods and since the re-launch, the brand has never looked back.
