Volkswagen, the German car maker was originally created so that the average German could afford cars. In 1930’s, the German car industry consisted of luxury models and in 1937, VW was created to manufacture Volks (people’s) wagen (automobile). The company was created by German Labour Front and under the Nazi regime, Hitler chose to sponsor this state-owned factory so that ordinary Germans would be able to buy the car.
