The original five VJ’s of MTV in 1981
Music Television (MTV) an American channel was launched on August 1st 1981, with the purpose to play music videos 24/7 aided by television personalities who came to be known as ‘video jockeys’ (VJ’s). The original five MTV VJs in 1981 were Nina Blackwood, Martha Quinn, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and J.J. Jackson. On 1 August 1981 at 12:01 am, the first song was aired and it was – “Video Killed the Radio Star” from the album ‘The Age of Plastic’ by The Buggles.
