Frank and Ethel Mars (yes, the chocolate Mars) started the Mar-O-Bar company in 1920 which today is known as Mars,Inc. They owned a Tennessee farm, known as the ‘Milky Way Farm’ which housed many of the racehorses. A few of the horses won regularly at the races. One among these horses happened to be ‘Snickers’ which also was Ethel’s favourite. After three years of experimenting with a unique recipe that consisted of they finally hit the jackpot in 1930 – which gave birth to Snickers bars. The name was chosen in the honour of ‘Snickers’, the horse, which died two months before the Mars couple released this new candy bar.
