The word Thursday, one of week-days in the calendar has its origins from Old Norse and Latin. The Roman God, Jupiter (Roman equivalent of Greek God Zeus), the god of sky and thunder was identified with Scandinavian god of thunder, Thunraz (Thor). From this with changes over the years came the the modern day word ‘Thursday’ as in Thor’s day. In Indian naming system, Thursday is called ‘Guruvar’ which means day of the Guru and Guru in this case refers to Brihaspati, who happens to be the lord of the gods and a regent of planet Jupiter.
