The name of the Japanese brand ‘Sony’ comes from the Latin word ‘Sonus’, from which the English words ‘sonic’ and ‘sound’ are derived. Also, the other word ‘Sonny’ – a frequently used American term to call a boy in the 1950’s. Onkyo, another Japanese brand gets its name locally which translates to ‘sound harmony’.
