Bombay Stock Exchange’s history goes back to 1855 when five stockbrokers (4 Gujarati, 1 Parsi) gathered under banyan trees in front of Mumbai’s town hall. With time, the location changed as the number of brokers increased and in 1874 the group eventually moved to Dalal Street. In 1875, the organisation came to be known as ‘The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association’.
