FACT FOOD #176

In 1686, a Italian chef from Sicily Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli opened a café in Paris – Cafe Procope. Unlike any other Cafe at that time, this outlet served ice-cream (gelato) to public for the first time. This happens to be the oldest functioning café in Paris and is located at Rue de l’Ancienne Comédie. As for the chef, he is also known as the ‘The father of Italian gelato’ by many historians.
