FACT FOOD #160

The last surviving self-described witness to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination was Samuel J. Seymour (March 28, 1860 – April 12, 1956), who appeared two months before his death at age 95 on the CBS-TV quiz show “I’ve Got a Secret. “As a 5-year-old, he said that he thought at first that he, himself, had been shot because his nurse, trying to fix a torn place in his blouse, stuck him with a pin at the moment of the gun’s discharge.” Though he did not see the assassination but witnessed John Wilkes Booth jumping from the balcony.
