The genus of the plant ‘Macadamia’, native to Australia was named after the Scottish-Australian chemist, teacher and politician Dr. John Macadam. This name was given in the year 1857 by his friend Ferdinand von Müller, who was a noted German-Australian geographer and a botanist.
