The name Shirodhara, a Ayurvedic therapy comes from the Sanskrit words shiro (head) and dhara (flow/pour). It is a massage treatment which involves pouring liquids gently over the forehead. The liquids, which can be oil, milk, coconut water, water (or any other customised liquid) can be used in Shirodhara depending on what is being treated. Although it is used for treating specific types of skin diseases, it is used widely in the spas for relaxation.

Depending on the type of the liquid, the various forms are – Ksheeradhara (milk), thakradhara (butter milk), taildhara (oil) and jaladhara (water).
