The name April comes from the Latin name ‘Aprillis’. According to the etymological evolution of this word, it derives from the verb aperire, ‘to open’ indicating April to be the season when trees and flowers open up. Romans celebrated 1st of April as Veneralia in honor of their Goddess Venus, and has been suggested that Aphrilis was originally her (Venus) month.
