Samsung was founded on March 1, 1938 by the founding chairman Byung-Chull Lee as a business in Taegu, South Korea. In the beginning, the business primarily focussed on trade export, selling dried Korean fish, vegetables and fruit to Manchuria and Beijing. Samsung in Korean means ‘three stars’.
