Tarantella is a traditional dance is named after the city of Taranto in southern Italy. It is characterized by the rapid whirling of couples. It is popularly associated with the insect, Tarantula whose bite was allegedly poisonous and could be only cured by frenetic dancing and thus lends its name to the insect.
