The dance ‘Shag’ also called ‘Carolina Shag’ originated in the 1940’s along the strands between North Carolina and South Carolina. This term was coined at Carolina Beach, North Carolina. This partner dance is primarily done to ‘beach music’ and is the official state dance of North Carolina.
