The 1784 battle between the troops of Republic of the Seven Netherlands and the Holy Roman Empire (Austria) involved only a single shot. It hit the kettle which stood on the deck of the Austrian ships containing vegetable soup, to which the empire surrendered. Aptly, this senseless battle is termed ‘Kettle War’.
