FACT FOOD #79

In ancient Greece, a great legend grew up that the plant Basil (Tulasi) was the cure for the bite of a mythical reptile like creature, Basilisk (the king of serpents). Few accounts state that those stung by scorpions would feel no pain if they ate the plant. The plant is a native to India, having been grown here for over 5000 years. The creature and the plant derive their name from the Latin word for ‘king’, signifying the royal state they shared in their respective domains.
