It was at the Château du Clos Lucé that Leonardo da Vinci spent the last three years of his life from 1516-1519, at the invition of Francis I. Here, da Vinci designed grand projects: the palace and ideal town at Romorantin, draining of Sologne marshes, surprising staircase with double turns at Chambord. The countryside display at the du Clos Lucé is a modern attraction which has many of the creations of da Vinci in display – machines, translucent canvases and many drawings. After his death on 2nd May 1519, he is buried in the chapel of Saint-Hubert which is adjoining to the Château Amboise, the royal palace of Francis I.
