Gulab Jamun is a popular sweet in India and other parts of Asia which first came to India courtesy of Persian speaking invaders. The word ‘gulab’ is derived from the Persian words which refers to rosewater-scented syrup. Jamun refers to an Indian fruit with a similar size and shape. This Indian sweet is similar to the Arabic dessert ‘Luqmat al qadi’. Though the batters involved in making these two dough balls are entirely different, the rest of the process is similar which is deep fried, soaked in syrup and sprinkled with sugar.
