Ned Hanlon was the manager of the Baltimore Orioles in the 1890’s and his team developed a high risk, but high rewarding strategy called ‘Hit and Run’. It employs a stolen base attempt to try to place the defending infielders out of position for an attempted base hit. The tactics were devised during training at Georgia in 1894.
